ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY PAIN

Acupuncture is a complementary therapy that could assist in alleviating nerve pain, numbness, and discomfort.

Acupuncture may stimulate the nerves and muscles, along with other body systems, to take advantage of the body’s response to pain and improve blood circulation.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture helps to stimulate nerves and muscles - boosting the body's natural response to pain and improving blood circulation.

Acupuncture is a key aspect of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of needles into specific pressure points on the body. Traditionally, this practice is believed to restore balance to the flow of energy, known as qi (pronounced “chee”), and enhance the body’s natural healing processes.

Acupuncture uses needles at specific pressure points to activate the nervous system, triggering endorphin release for natural pain relief in muscles, spine, and brain, thereby changing your body's response to pain.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is caused by damage to peripheral nerves, resulting in tingling in the hands and feet. The goal for those affected is to reactivate damaged nerve fibers and prevent further degeneration, with acupuncture playing a significant role in this process.

Neuropathic pain often arises from nerve damage and is commonly associated with changes in the central nervous system.

In cases of peripheral neuropathy, the resulting and numbness can be almost unbearable. Walking, especially hard, cold tile floors, can feel like walking on shards of glass.

Acupuncture for Peripheral Neuropathy

According to traditional Chinese medicine, peripheral neuropathy happens when there's a blockage of energy (called qi) and blood in the body. If qi and blood don’t flow freely, our cells and tissues don't receive the nourishment they need.

Acupuncture is really good at restoring blood flow and stimulating the body's nerve pathways. It can also help with nerve regeneration and preservation. If there has been nerve damage or diminished sensation, we target treatment in these areas to re-stimulate those nerve fibers.

National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health indicates acupuncture aids in treatment of neuropathy

National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) indicates that acupuncture may aid in alleviating certain chronic pain types. Studies also suggest that acupuncture treatments are effective for peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain.

THE COMMON BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE

In traditional Chinese medicine, peripheral neuropathy occurs when there is obstruction of energy, known as qi, and blood within the body. When qi and blood are unable to flow freely, our cells and tissues lack the nourishment essential for their health.

Acupuncture is highly effective in enhancing blood circulation and activating the body's nerve pathways. Additionally, it supports nerve regeneration and preservation. In cases of nerve damage or reduced sensation, we focus our treatment on these specific areas to reactivate the nerve fibers.

PAIN RELIEF

Acupuncture activates the nervous system, releasing natural painkillers like endorphins and enkephalins, which can lessen neuropic pain intensity and frequency.

IMPROVE NERVE FUNCTION

Studies suggest acupuncture may improve blood flow and support nerve regeneration, enhancing nerve signaling and function, particularly for conditions like diabetic neuropathy.

REDUCED INFLAMMATION

Chronic inflammation may worsen neuropathy. Acupuncture can reduce inflammatory cytokines, decreasing inflammation and possibly slowing neuropathy progression.

BETTER SLEEP & MOOD

Chronic pain disrupts sleep and may lead to anxiety or depression. Acupuncture can improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety and depression, and enhance overall well-being.

ACUPUNCTURE RELIEVES SYMPTOMS OF NEUROPATHIC PAIN

From the viewpoint of Western medicine, acupuncture stimulates nerves and muscles, enhancing the body's pain response and promoting better blood circulation.

In an acupuncture session, needles are inserted at specific points to stimulate the nervous system, prompting the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers. This process the body's pain response, making acupuncture effective for pain relief and discomfort.

ACUPUNCTURE'S ROLE IN ALLEVIATING NEUROPATHY SYMPTOMS

In traditional Chinese medicine, peripheral neuropathy is caused by a blockage in qi and blood flow, preventing cells from receiving nourishment. Acupuncture seeks to unblock this flow to promote healing.

A systematic review indicates that acupuncture effectively treats diabetic neuropathy, Bell's palsy, and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), and may benefit HIV-positive patients. It presents a holistic approach in managing neuropathic pain, combining traditional Chinese beliefs with modern Western medicine.
